I have to start with the interaction I was lucky enough to witness this afternoon between Kait & my charming husband......
Daniel: "Kaitlin, I love you with the fire of a thousand warriors."
Kait: "Daniel, I love you with the ice of a thousand ice cubes."
Daniel: "I love you like a fat kid loves cake."
Kait: "I love you like a skinny kid loves fruit."
As my Dad so perfectly put it..."There is nothing wrong with Kait's brain!" The normalcy of that interaction {yes, this is normal for both of them} was refreshing and VERY welcomed after the day we had yesterday.
Kait had another really difficult night under the care of Amy Moore {one of both of our best friends & along with her husband, part of our "extended family"} last night. Her biggest issue right now is breathing. As you can imagine, when you can't take a deep breath and even breathing normally is incredibly hard-it's very easy to panic. That was a summary of Kait's night. On top of that, she had a fever that started about 2AM. Amy, who was the best possible person to be with Kaitlin last night worked hard to keep her calm with breathing exercises and prayer. By God's grace, Kait began the morning with new hope and today was much, much better. When I say that we feel your prayers, I mean it! We truly feel the Lord's favor on our family and on Kaitlin. Today Kaitlin had a very busy day. She sat in her back brace, she had breathing treatments {I told her she looked like a beautiful Darth Vader & her sister Megan said "hey-I think Darth Vader IS beautiful...I have a hilarious family}, got a long massage from a sweet friend of Sue's that went a LONG way towards relaxing her muscles in her neck and shoulders, and had a procedure to remove the fluid from her left lung. All that to say, she really is in much better spirits than she was at the end of yesterday. Specific things you can pray for: restful nights where Kait can sleep and reenergize for the next day. Breathing! She will have her right lung drained tomorrow, but until that happens-her breathing will be very labored. We still hope to move to Craig on Tuesday, but won't be able to move until everything is stable-pray for stability! Kaitlin has a small blood clot in her leg that the doctors aren't too worried about, but pray that it disappears by the time they check it again.
***We have added a new tab to the blog called "Ways to help"- please check it to see who to contact if you are interested in doing something specific for John & Kait. We will continue to update this page as more projects/needs arise...but for now, it has all the information you might need! This is to direct your generosity & help us stay organized. THANK YOU! Again, we are humbled.
Today, Daniel and Megan sang "Amazing Grace" to Kaitlin as she did her breathing treatment. She smiled the whole time and truly looked like she was at rest. The part in the song that was the most beautiful to hear them sing was when it says, "The Lord has promised good to me. His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures." Amen & amen.
Remember that you are not alone, that we love you dearly & that Kaitlin needs your prayers! Thank you for joining us on our knees as we fight for her to live & to heal.
Love,
Carolyn
