YOU ARE TOUGH DOE 9/5

Friends & Family,

I am writing this post from Kait's hospital room today...even as she lays in a hospital bed, time with her is my favorite part of the day. I know this is the reality for so many! I'm thankful that some things never change.

The first thing I saw as I walked into Kaitlin's room 30 minutes ago was a BEAUTIFUL card sitting on the chair by her bed (picture below-art done by one of her students). As soon as I found out it was from her 8th period science class I proceeded to read the notes aloud to everyone in the room (including Kaitlin). Needless to say, every single one of the 30 notes written said something along the lines of, "Dear Mrs. Wanberg, don't tell the other teachers, but you are my favorite teacher I've ever had." A few that I can't resist posting:

"Dear Mrs. Wanberg, YOU ARE TOUGH DOE. We are in love. :) Sincerely, Dakota."

"Dear Mrs. Wanberg, We all miss you so much. I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. You are my favorite teacher and I'm so happy I was one of your students. You are part of our best friend square (me, you, Christine and Dakota) & we won't be the same until you are back! Feel better soon, Alexa"

"Dear Mrs. Wanberg, Sorry to hear about the accident. Get better soon. We miss and need you. -Josh."

I am realizing more and more each day just how ADORED Kaitlin Rebecca Wanberg truly is. Clearly we as her family think she's absolutely phenomenal...but it's been incredible to see the overwhelming amount of people who have been touched & changed by who Kaitlin is. She is a world-changer...and if you're reading this...you already know that.

A medical update: Last night was a tough night for Kaitlin as she was dealing with some respiratory issues. Mark stayed the night last night with her and Sue is staying tonight in order to advocate for her and give her even more care. They gave her some meds to help deal with the fluid build up in her lungs and today has been better. She hasn't had to use the back brace today because she's not moving around too much but today was the first day we had the PT's come in & it went very well. They repositioned her so she'll have better spinal alignment. They taught us some "passive physical therapy" so we can get her legs moving a little bit more. We also had some visitors from Craig hospital (where Kaitlin will move in about a week for her long term rehab) come to visit today-this is a HUGE answer to prayer because it can take months to get in & it is the best in the country for spinal rehabilitation for the last 30 something years. (Side note-thank you SO much for all of you who provided us with contacts to Craig!) Kaitlin ate a strong lunch again today and had a smoothie for breakfast-another answer to prayer. Her spirits are high-according to John she was "super sassy with the Craig guy telling him that she's a fighter." While Amy was here with her today she asked if she could get a dog...John responded to that by saying, "sure, I'll get her anything she wants!" Although there are more and more positive things to report, please continue fighting for my sweet sister in prayer. She is still in so much pain and has a long journey ahead of her. She needs consistent reminders that she is winning this battle when her body feels so broken.

John's prayer request: that he would be able to establish a routine that he can be regular in as Kait begins to stabilize. John is also in high spirits...as I write this he is playing his star wars game on his new iPad and says, "thanks again!!" Each and every single one of you is blessing John & Kaitlin immensely...please know this with confidence!

I also wanted to mention that I have been printing your thoughtful and heartfelt e-mails to show John & Kait (and Mark & Sue and my parents too!) when they are ready. Know that they will read your words and be touched-just as I have been.

The scripture that we are praying over Kaitlin today is from Romans chapter 8:22-25. It reads, "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently."

We love you all dearly,
Carolyn

Text on the front of the card: (coming out of the birds mouth)-I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free. (on the bottom)-For His eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches me. -Matthew 10:29-31
